First i hope i can still get points even though its a little late.....?

But enjoyed going on this " The Most Dangerous Game" type run. i belive that it was terrible for the slaves at that time. it was in a way like The Most Dangerous Game becuase they were being hunted by there owners or anyone who wanted to make a buck and dident care about the humans. i learned a lot about what happened and i also learned to be greatful for the life i have now. The actors did great in the situations to make it realistic! but toby, come toby gota remember those lines! overall enjoyed the exprience :)

This trip was pretty legit. Night looming upon us made it even better, didn't it?
Though, I will say Lindsey's baby crying and the angry preacher was probably the most entertaining part... only on the fact that we all knew it would be sooner or later until it started crying and we all died.
Despite this incident of tears, I thought it was fascinating. There's only so much that can be read to comprehend history such as that. We all sat inside the extremely small log cabin room with limited air as the lady went on her 'State of The Union' speech. Ok, it wasn't the SoTU speech, but it was long. We couldn't necessarily picture ourselves doing these things the slaves had, until we actually were hiding amongst fece-infested hay in some kind of pig pen. Or being shot at. Or being captured before we fled to Canada. And Jo ruining it and not saving us all from the slave catcher.
I liked it. My mom was jealous.

I agree that this was one of our best trips! I think it was something that everyone should experience. This trip gave us an idea about what runaway slaves had to go through, but their experiences were so much worse. Even though it was scary to hear the slave catchers looking for us and hearing the gun go off, we knew that our lives weren't really in danger. It’s hard to imagine the people that were literally running for their lives. I think the actors did a great job in making this realistic of the people and time period.

Do these things happen today in a slightly different manner? Did we learn anything from the "olden days"? Not perhaps slaves "running away" but fugitives. What are the statistics on today's fugitives? Where do we find fugitives today? Why are they "running away"? Would some circumstances be similar? How?

I had a lot of fun. It was interesting to learn about history by reenacting it through the eyes of others and to be honest I think I learned a lot more than what I've learned in school. The actors were very good and really helped me get into it. I was actually somewhat scared when we were first in the barn and when the gun went off, despite the fact I knew it was fake, I screamed. I was a little disappointed when we got caught but very surprised and saddened to learn that only 3-5 out of 100 slaves made it to Canada. It also saddened me when, despite the fact they were free, they were still treated like dirt in Canada ever after such a long and fearful journey.

This trip was highly exciting, I feel sorry for the people who couldn't make it last night. I learned so much from this journey, and from the reactions of others, I can see that they too enjoyed it as well. If I had to explain this trip in one word, it would be: Wow!

I agree with Alicen's comment along the lines that even though it was fake, I made me realize how hard it was for an escaping slave. I had to take it from the point that this journey was shortened from an actual escape. Our 90 minute adventure was a story taken from three escaped slaves who spent months trying to get from freedom. If you take it from a slave who spent months just to end up going back south, I'd be heartbroken.

Also along the lines of Lienne, the fact that 3-5 out of 100 slaves actually did make it to Canada was shocking. The many stories I was told while growing up in grade school talked about the ones who made it, I feel that we need to stress that these lucky ones were extremely lucky. I now also honor the other 95-97 who tried and didn't make it because they too knew the odds of not making it, but they had the determination to take that risk at losing everything just to try to be that 3-5%. That amazes me.

I finally applaud all of the actors and organizers at Hale Farm. The people at Hale Farm did a superior job at making the story seem extremely real! I recommend anyone who didn't go on the trip and those who know people who take interest in this kind of thing to go and do this because this was an experience!

In my opinion, this was definitely one of the better events we've done all year. The whole thing was very interesting and beneficial. For someone who feels that the slavery/civil war era topic has been excessively belabored in school, I admit that those were terrible times and that the reenactment was very worthwhile. I now have a better understanding of what it must have been like as a fugitive slave because of it. I'm glad we did this at night because it made it more realistic. I thought the auction barn part was really neat and yet felt a little insulted when they said "wenches" were good for nothing house slaves. I also really liked when they shot the gun and everybody started running away in a panic. I too was surprised to hear that only 3-5 of every 100 runaway slaves ever made it to freedom.

I really enjoyed the trip. It helped me understand more of what was going through the minds of both the fugitive slaves and the abolitionists. I realized it wasn't just because everyone was racist in those times, it was more because the laws in the country would take away everything they had if they helped the fugitives.

I was kind of bummed out in the end that we got caught but when the lady told us that only 3 out of every 100 fugitives made it to freedom, I was shocked. Every story I've ever heard of a runaway slave had made it and I didn't think about all the others that had tried.

All in all, I really enjoyed the trip and would agree that it would have been nice to have the extended version to really experience what it would have felt like to be a fugitive slave.

I liked this one too. I'm preferable to the happy trips but it was neat to see. I especially liked looking at the village when we were driving in because it was still light outside and it seemed so removed from the usual hustle and bustle of things. The gun scared me a whole ton... even though I knew it was fake. I wouldn't have been able to handle that part of being a fugitive. Guess I'm never going to break the law. Some of the acting made me laugh, like the boy who couldn't get his words straight in the school house. His hair was fantastic. I agree with Amanda and think it could have been longer, but I understand that for kids and old people, that's not really an option. It was a good experience, I learned a lot. And I want one of the hoop skirts that the sisters were wearing in the houses. Ha.
